I’ve decided to give myself a break for Friday posts this MoFo, and do a little something I like to call “Freeloading Friday”. Each Friday of this month, I will be taking a little summin’ from the Vegan MoFo blogosphere to give me a boost for my own Friday posts. In return, the people I took from will get, well… not much. Hence the freeloading part.
This week: alphabet survey.
I stole this from Sarah’s cute blog “This is What I Eat“. I like doing survey’s for MoFo because it’s pretty much the only time I ever get “personal” on this blog. Sometimes I ramble on about my kids or husband as a recipe headnote, but I wouldn’t volunteer most of this info about my mundane life if not prompted. Lucky you!
So, let’s go….
A is for Avocado: How do you like yours prepared?
Straight from the peel, with a little shake of black pepper and sea salt. I could also eat my weight in guacamole on any given day.
B is for Bread: Regardless of nutrition, what is your favorite type?
When I used to eat real bread, my favorite was French baguette for snacking and ciabatta for sandwiching. I also loved croissants. And Hawaiian rolls. And naan. And sicilian style pizza crusts. And crusty olive Boules filled with stew. Damn, I miss bread.
Now I’m very fond of socca, made crispy style. I also love a good gluten free bagel.
C is for Chocolate: What is your favorite kind currently?
Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups are pretty fantabulous. But, I’m not terribly picky with my chocolate choices. As long as the ingredient list is vegan and pretty short, I’ll love it. Oh! I had some Piedras de Chocolate Cocoa Dusted Chocolate Almonds this past week and they pretty much blew my mind.
D is for Doughnuts: You might not currently eat them, but what kind do you fancy?
Oh I eat them. Cake doughnuts have been my fave since childhood, and they are pretty flippin’ easy to make gluten-free… so those are the kinds I fancy. Any flavor, please.
E is for Egg(plant): How would you like yours prepared?
Baigin Bharta. Or Baba Ganoush. Essentially, I like eggplant smoked and mashed.
F is for Falafel: Yay or nay?
G is for Groceries: Where do you purchase yours?
Being in Philly is seriously a game changer. I used to shop at Kroger almost exclusively when in Ohio, now I have like 100,000 shops to choose from. I love local Asian and Indian markets for many of my needs, and probably frequent those most often.
As for the chains, I like Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Giant, and I flippin’ love Wegmans. But I don’t go to these places but once a month for essentials like Daiya, soyrizo and Vegenaise.
H is for Hot Beverages: What is your favorite hot drink?
Black Coffee, French Pressed.
I is for Ice Cream: Pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.
Buttered Rum with Chocolate Magic Shell. And pralines.
J is for Jams or Jellies: Do you eat them? If so, what kind and flavor?
I love almost all kinds, except for marmalade and mint. :\
K is for Kashi: Name your favorite Kashi product?
Does Kashi make anything gluten free? I don’t think they do… if so, I haven’t had it. Sorry Kashi, no love from me today.
L is for Lunch: What was yours today?
Giant Salad: Kale, Spinach, tomatoes, almonds, grapes, clementine, sliced criminis, bell pepper, carrots, with a nooch based dressing.
Sweet potato with curry spicy and follow your heart sour cream.
M is for microwave: What is your favorite microwave meal/snack?
Hmm…. I’m not a huge fan of microwaves. Before we moved, we didn’t even have one. I’m not gonna be sad if our next house doesn’t have one built in either. I’d rather have more cabinet space. Or a built in toaster oven!
N is for nutrients: Do you like carbs, fats, or proteins best?
All of the above.
O is for oil: What kind do you like to use?
Extra Virgin Olive is my go-to oil. I rarely use anything else, unless frying or un-cooking.
P is for protein: How do you get yours?
From all the protein-packed plants I eat.
Q is for Quaker: How do you like your oats?
No oats for me. :(
R is for roasting: What is your favorite thing to roast?
Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts. I also love a good roasted veggie loaf. I’m a big fan of roasting.
S is for sandwich: What’s your favorite kind?
Sliced tomato fresh from the garden, Vegenaise, sea salt, and fresh cracked black pepper on toasted bread. Bonus points if avocado is added.
T is for travel: How do you handle eating while traveling?
I seek out Indian, Asian, and Mexican Cuisine for eating out. And lotsa veggies and hummus.
U is for unique: What are some of the unique foods that you like?
Oh nothing too crazy: Kombucha, Nutritional Yeast, Kimchi, Peanut Butter, Jelly and Pickle Sandwiches. Ya know, the basics.
V is for vitamins: What kind do you take?
I don’t really take any… but I eat a ton of fortified foods, and the like. Sometimes I pop an emergenC if I have one around.
W is for Wiener schnitzel: Do you ever recreate this traditional Czech food?
Y is for Youth: What foods remind you of your childhood?
Polish Sausage, Potato Salad, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Cabbage Rolls, Stuffed Peppers, Goulash, Steak Fries, Hamburger Gravy, Au Gratin Potatoes, Angel food Cake, Seafoam Icing, and Pierogies.
Z is for Zucchini: How do you prepare it?
Love it raw. Sliced thin and dipped in hummus (or made into hummus), spiralized and used as noodles, or shaved and baked into sweet and savory treats.
This marks the end of week one for me this Vegan MoFo 5! See you all on Monday… Happy Weekend!
