Super Sexy Smoothie

I just couldn’t resist the kitschy-ness of including a post about aphrodisiac foods right before Valentines Day.  So, I did some research googling, and found some pretty interesting “facts” about foods from various unreliable sources on the internet. :)

I thought it would be fun to include a simple list of foods that will spice up your life– that, when blended together, make a mighty tasty smoothie.  Whether you are single or attached (or just don’t give a damn)…this smoothie will provide you with a good dose of spunk. <3

 


Super Seductive Smoothie:

makes about two 16 oz smoothies

Ingredients:

  • 2 large ripe and frozen bananas
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 -1 tsp chili pepper paste ( 1 tsp=pretty darn spicy)
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1 1/2 -2 cups coconut water ( I like ‘em super duper thick, so I used 1 1/2 cups– feel free to add as much liquid as you want)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract or 1 tsp vanilla beans
  • 2 Medjool dates or a squeeze of agave (optional if you like your smoothie extra sweet)

Directions:

Blend all ingredients together in blender until very smooth.  Since the actual size of fruit used may vary… adjust amounts to suit your taste and texture.

Pour into glasses and enjoy!

The Aphrodisiac Claims:

Banana:

Bananas are full of Potassium and B Vitamins- which are said to increase the production of sex hormones.

Chocolate:

Chocolate is said to contain Serotonin and Phenylethylamine, chemicals that are naturally found in the brain that induce “good-feelings”.

~This must be the cause for  my “addict- like reasoning” I experience when *ahem* eating an entire bag of chocolate chips.  :|

avacado

Avocado:

This one is great… the word avocado itself is apparently derived from “ahuacatl” in the Nahuatl language which simply translates to “testicle.”   I guess this is what makes it an aphrodisiac?

Well, I certainly wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to put an avocado in this smoothie… so aphrodisiac it is.

cardamom
Cardamom:

In my humble opinion, Cardamom is definitely the sexiest spice on the planet.  Hands down.

It is highly aromatic and full of cineole, which is said to increase blood flow in areas where it is applied. (refrain from giggling)

vanilla extract

Vanilla:

Vanilla apparently has the ability to soothe emotional tension with its sweet, lingering fragrance.  It is also said to increase energy levels,  improve circulation, as well as produce a euphoric effect on your brain.

Chili Peppers:

Eating chili peppers will produce physiological responses in our bodies that may remind us of the feeling of falling in love: they increase our heart rate,  improve our circulation and (as most of us know) can really bring on the heat.  This is caused by capsaicin, a chemical which stimulates our nerve endings which, in turn, raises our pulse and causes us to sweat.  Like chocolate, this stuff is also said to contain endorphins.

Coconut Water:

Coconut water, particularly from the young coconut is said to increase circulation, raise metabolism, and is chock full of electrolytes. It also is said to improve intestinal health, stop fatigue, fight viruses, prevent hypertension, ease stomach pain, help control diabetes and reduce one’s risk of cancer.

I’m guessing none of those canned energy concoctions can even compete with that.

    Seductive goodness!! I’ve been really getting into smoothies lately, and this looks spectacular.

    I just made this smoothie and it was excellent! I used unsweetened almond milk instead of coconut water and I didn’t add any agave nectar. The bananas provide plenty of sweetness for my taste.

    Interestingly, I found that if you only use 1 cup of milk, then you essentially end up with pudding (cool!). But as metioned above, you can add more milk as needed for your liking.
